I think about giving up all the time.

From November 2017 till the end of 2019, I have been traveling across the country, juggling several jobs. I cleaned office spaces, did some cooking and I’ve even assisted project management & marketing for a foundation that supports the education, sports, and wellbeing of kids growing up in poverty. My goal during this time was to do whatever was needed to do to change my life.

This was the reason why I parked my music-career and kept it on a low, so I could focus on the 2 main things:

  1. Love; identify my happiness and live a life that I actually love
  2. Freedom; in the broadest sense of the word but definitely mentally and financially

This journey has changed my life and I am happy to have had the opportunity to put in the work and experience the results. But, somewhere around November of 2018, I started getting like these divine messages, signs, and hints of 2020 being “my year” — whatever that means. As my contract was coming to an end in late 2019, I started to get anxieties. I didn’t have a plan, I didn’t know where to start and I didn’t know if I could still do “this” — which made me really insecure. All I knew (or at least, I love to believe so) was that 2020 would be “my year”.

I’ve been asked several times in the past, to participate in one of the biggest talent shows in the Netherlands. I have almost considered it, but in the end, I shied away from it because I was scared of “falling flat on my face” on national television. Then on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 — the same producer contacted me again — this time for a whole new show. I was still scared, maybe even more, but I told myself “just try” and that if I get through the auditions — I will see it through. So I did — and that became the start of my 2020.

To me 2020 isn’t making a come-back and conquering the world, it is a preparation for the journey ahead. Aside from creating and sharing my art, which is what an artist must do, my goal is to prepare myself, my team, and my fans for what is to come. Still, I do not know what exactly is coming — but I do know it requires me to step up my game as an artist, as a leader within my team, as a businessman and ultimately as a person.

2020

By the first week of January, there were still no plans, only a few ideas. So I decided that I’m not gonna focus on doing shows this year, instead, I would deep-dive into taking the necessary steps to prepare, and while doing so taking my fans on this journey with me.

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” — Paolo Coehlo

By the end of February, together with my team, we had a 2-year plan outlined based on one key message “everything you need, you are”. This meaning; that at all times whatever we do should be focused on optimizing what we have and not waste any time on what we can’t control. Take Flight came out on Monday, March 2, 2020, and then the lockdown happened. I will spare you the “juicy” details of all challenges and worries this pandemic has brought with it, but I do want to share with you how at peace I am on a more profound level. And I think this has a lot to do with the focus point. Our focus isn’t on building a successful career, the focus is purpose. And like Paolo Coehlo wrote in The Alchemist: “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” I believe that what is ahead, is what I need to do, and when you believe and move in faith everything falls into place.

Our achievements so far:

  • Take Flight — A dream come true: having my day one team being reinforced by well-established international producers, engineers, and filmmakers.
  • Celebrating 10 years of ‘Djis Mi Mes’ — Bringing all my fans from all around the world together (from their homes) and sharing a feeling of nostalgia and celebration.
  • AFAS — A partnership I have been manifesting since 2016.
  • Keep Moving — Funded! Stay tuned…
  • Crowdfunding — Launching a campaign to create my upcoming album with the support of my fans, family, and friends.

I think about giving up all the time, as a matter of fact, nowadays, I allow those feelings and thoughts to be what they are: just feelings and thoughts. Furthermore, to me, the most important thing is to follow my inner “compass”, trust the process, and keep moving no matter what, even if it means taking small steps — one at a time.

To be continued…

Thanks for taking the time to read this and even more for your support; it’s a real motivation. I look forward to taking you on this journey, and I’m excited to share the developments on Facebook & Instagram. Keep listening to my music on Spotify, and certainly, check out the videos on my YouTube Channel. Don’t be shy to say “Hi” — I encourage you to share your thoughts, leave a comment, and subscribe.
