The making of ‘Keep Moving’

You can’t want it and not put in the work.

Sometimes it feels like people know my songs and expect me to recreate them. To me, it is not just music, it’s about changing my life by seeking growth and diving deep in order to improve. I am not trying to become a better musician; I just want to better my life and share the process with you through my art — that’s it.

The upcoming album dives even deeper. I am not just making an album and putting it out there. I am giving people an inside scoop of what I experience and how I experience it. The goal is to create an album that can serve as an inspiration in other people’s lives. Hopefully, it will help others in their own healing process, because I believe that there are men and women out there that are hurt, traumatized, and afraid of walking in their strength and purpose. As a man, I have struggled a lot to identify and truly be who I am and in a way, I’m still pushing myself to really get there. So, this is not an attempt to show how challenging the process is. It’s an attempt to show that challenges are part of the process.

MIDDLEGR — ND will be my second studio album. It is a fragile body of work that covers ground about love & freedom, as things we all want and need while unpacking ego & fear. The truth is, I don’t always like working on my projects because they challenge me. I embody everything I work and I push myself to practice what I preach. For instance, for the next single ”Keep Moving” (which has been in my repertoire for a while), I am doing something I haven’t done for 14 years and that is dancing. Before music, I used to dance and I loved it. I think, deep down, I still love dancing, but, at a certain point in my life, I stopped and that had a lot to do with my sense of freedom. I not only stopped dancing as a performer but also when I am by myself listening to music in my own living room — as if I’m emotionally stiff.

Even though it is exhausting, breakthroughs are always liberating.

For the music video, I wanted to do something with dancing and try to put myself in a different light. It requires me to let go and step out of my comfort zone; So, no singing, no guitar, just dancing. Just me, a grown man, expressing myself physically and emotionally, breaking down the walls I’ve built consciously or unconsciously that have been stopping me from being free. Then again, it is more than just about dancing, it’s about tackling where I’m feeling stuck in life. For the last few weeks, I have been feeling like running away, quitting, and avoiding this project because sometimes it gets hard. But I also know that the only way to break through it is to go through it. So now, I’m starting to get back in touch with the part of me that allows movement to be a form of my expression. No one is making me do this. I am just doing what I need to do. On the one side, I love it and on the other, I totally hate it. Even though it is exhausting, breakthroughs are always liberating.
